I moved to New York back in June of 2015. Whew! And boy is this city tough. Going from the suburbs of Flossmoor, to the streets of Bedstuy, from a two bedroom two bathroom condo and living alone, to a tiny ass room sharing a space with 5 other people, from driving a nice car to riding in a packed smelly subway everyday. It is quite the culture shock. But I love it. I like the hustle and grind of New Yorkers. It makes me want to work a lot harder at what I do. I must dispel the myth that New Yorkers are mean/rude, etc. I have not had that experience yet, as a matter of fact, most of the people I meet are very nice. They hold the subway car open for me when its about to close, Give me directions when I look lost and I even get lots of compliments. They’re really not that bad, just in a hurry. New York is an extremely busy city, with lots and lots of people. The best, the brightest, the prettiest, the whittiest, the smartest, the most talented all live in New York. No matter where you go, there will always be someone who is better than you. The competition is steep in NY. And that applies all the way across the board, in terms relationships and professionally. If you’re dating someone, and it doesn’t work out for some reason, Who gives a crap? Because there is going to be someone else, smarter, better looking, with a better job around the corner or even on the floor above you. The same with your career, if they don’t like you they’ll find someone who will do a better job, quicker and who won’t complain. But overall, New York is definitely making me tougher and building character in me and forcing me out of my comfort zone. I love you New York.
I fell in love with a man and his name is NEW YORK!
